Review Week (All Units)
Next week students will begin a brand new unit on the four seasons, before we move on to this exciting endevour it is crucial we review much of what has been learned to this point. A vast majority of review will occur during circle time. Parents: please feel free to use the materials sent home in the silver work portoflio to assist your child.
Planned for Outcomes:
a.) Verbal:
Kindergarten: Increased tendency to use full sentences e.g “The lamb is Mary’s friend.”
Pre-K: increased comfort with farm animal vocabulary, expansion of introduced vocabulary, total review and assessment of rentention through varied circle time activities.
b.) Cognitive:
-Kindergarten: understanding of age differences and how these tend to be addressed in the English language.
-Pre-K: increased familiarity of the vocabulary and English through songs.
c.) Behavioural:
-Both cohorts need to work on knowing when it is core academic or learning time versus when it is time to time play, this upcoming week and in subsequent weeks we will continue to place/understand the boundaries of such.
WEEKLY LESSON PLANS:
Week 11: Baby Farm Animals and Large Scale Review
Monday 26 March, 2012
I.) Core Activity:
-Kindergarten-review of previously learned materials through a hide and find farm animals game, phonics game time permitting.
-Pre-K-review of the shapes through interactive play, choice of education oriented song.
(Tuesday and Wednesday-Teacher absence)
Thursday 29 March, 2012
I.) Core Activity:
-Kindergarten: today students will be introduced to another popular English language children’s song “Mary had a Little Lamb.” If time
permits we will also a begin a special, individual lamb project. This project will introduce tour younger cohort the tactile medium of cotton. The emphasis in this project is on creativity and individual choice making. Throughout the week we will also be talking about the different names often assigned to baby animals vs. grown animals
-Pre-K: Same project.
Friday 30 March, 2012
I.) Core Activity:
-Kindergarten: today students will complete an abbreviated Friday Review that focuses mainly on improving handwriting skills and letter
recognition through practicing what they have already learned. Extra time willbe taken to emphasis the vocabulary differences that exist for some animals in their plural forms and different vocabulary assigned per age e.g pig vs. piglet or sheep vs. lamb.
-Pre-K: we are all about shapes today and students will be given free choice to build a house or other structure with as few or as many shapes as
they wish---the catch---they must identify in English piece by piece (a task that is fairly difficult for this cohort.)
