Week 5: Introduction to Family (New Unit)
Planned for Outcomes:
a.) Verbal
-Kindergarten: ability to extend full family names to their proper English equvillent, e.g 'Mama' -becomes Mother
-Pre-K: meaningful memorization of full English names, application to actual family when possible.
b.) Cognitive
-Everyone: increased learning through song.
-Kindergarten: ability to memorize and recite our first poem for the Mother's Day gala.
-Kindergarten: an increased understanding of family roles.
c.) Behavioural:
-An active (not passive or unengaged) part in song activites.

I.) Core Activties:
-Today is a special holiday: Valentine's Day so all cohorts will be making a special valentine present for their Mother's (or two for both parents, or another special family member) this project, unlike most, will go home today.
-This provides both classes with a nice introduction to the unit of study, with particular focus on Mother's Day.

I.) Core Activities:
-Today the people in a person's nuclear family are introcuced: Mother, Father, Brother and Sister. The goal for both cohorts today is solid but meaningful memorization of this new English vocabulary.
-Kindergarten: will be drawing a family portrait
-Pre-K: modified for skill level, will be focusing soley on Mother and Father and applying this new vocabulary via colouring.
II.) Core Activity II:
-Everyone: poem and song rehersal (will be occuring all this week and next)

I.) Core Activity:
-Everyone: today we will move on to include Grandparents as part of our English family vocabulary.
-Kindergarten: if students show a readiness we will also introduce the concept of son, daughter, baby, girl and boy. Meaningful application through extended family portrait.
-Pre-K: depending upon attendance and readiness our class will have a special bilingual focus as grandparents are introduced into this cohort's venacular.

I.) Core Activity:
-Kindergarten: today student's will be conducting their 'Friday Review,' if their behaviour was good (later note: it was fantastic) will be treated to their Friday movie.
-Pre-K: Introduction to the concept of a family tree (through teacher example.)
